Technically it's not art but I think the Cherokee Syllabary is so cool. Invented by Sequoyah when Cherokee it's got a symbol for separate syllables, and allowed for the language to be written. Genius...he was somehow able to listen to an oral language and figure out all the sounds, then create this syllabary from that!
